The Complete Summer Villa Prep Checklist for Algarve Owners
2 April 2026 · 6 min
Why Summer Prep Matters in the Algarve
The Algarve summer is short, intense and unforgiving on villa exteriors. Between May and September, holiday rentals turn over weekly, private owners fly in for extended stays, and every guest review scores your outdoor space more harshly than the interior. A villa that looked fine in March will show winter grime, algae bloom and pollen build-up by the first week of June — long after your slot for a professional clean has been booked by someone else.
This is the exact checklist we run for private owners and property managers across Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Almancil and Vilamoura before peak season.
1. Pool Surrounds & Sun Terraces
The single highest-risk area on any villa. Winter algae leaves invisible biofilm on tile, travertine and natural stone — surfaces that then become dangerously slippery once wet from swimmers or hosepipes. Professional pool surround cleaning uses controlled pressure and biodegradable detergent to lift algae without abrading the stone.
2. Patios, Terraces & BBQ Zones
Terracotta, Santa Catarina, calçada and porcelain each need a different approach. Terracotta is porous and can be permanently damaged by high pressure; porcelain tolerates it easily. A generalist "man with a jetwash" will strip the sealed layer off your patio. See our algae removal guide for the technical detail.
3. Driveway & Entrance
Guests judge your villa within 10 seconds of arrival. Oil drips, algae between the calçada joints and weeds sprouting through paving all cost you review points before the front door is even open. Our driveway cleaning includes weed removal, joint re-sanding and optional sealing.
4. Façade & Render Wash
Salt air, red desert dust from North Africa and coastal humidity build a grey film on painted render. Soft-washing (not high-pressure) removes it without stripping paint or forcing water into cracks.
5. Roof & Gutter Clear-Out
Winter debris — pine needles, oak leaves, sand — blocks gutters and downpipes. When the first summer thunderstorm hits (they always do in July), water overflows behind the render and into ceilings. A pre-summer gutter flush costs a fraction of one water-damage repair.
6. Outdoor Furniture & Loungers
Wicker, teak, aluminium and cushion frames all need different treatment. We refresh them alongside the surrounding patio so nothing looks freshly cleaned next to something that clearly is not.
7. Waste & Old Furniture Removal
Every villa accumulates broken loungers, tired BBQs, cracked plant pots and shed junk. Book this in the same visit as pressure washing — one team, one arrival, one invoice. See our removal services.
