Winter storm prep for Algarve villas
Algarve winters are short but violent. Most winter damage we see is not from wind — it is from a blocked downpipe overflowing down a rendered wall for three months.

What winter actually damages
Blocked gutters stain façades
Overflow runs down painted render and leaves black tide marks that need a full soft wash to remove — and sometimes repainting.
Standing water finds its way in
Blocked terrace drains pond against door thresholds. A ten-minute clear-out in November prevents a damp problem in February.
Loose items become projectiles
Old parasols, light furniture and stacked junk get thrown into pools, glass and cars. Clearing them is cheaper than the claim.
Storm prep checklist
A focused half-day visit aimed squarely at preventing winter damage.
Gutter clearing & flush test
Debris removed by hand, then water-tested so we know the downpipes actually run.
Downpipe unblocking
Rodded and flushed from the top, including the hidden runs behind planting and pergolas.
Terrace & driveway drain clearing
Gullies and channel drains cleared of summer grit, leaves and sand.
Roof moss soft wash
Moss and lichen treated at low pressure so it does not lift tiles or wash into gutters all winter.
Secure or remove loose items
Light furniture stored, and anything broken or unwanted taken away on the same visit.
Written condition notes
Photos and notes on cracked tiles, lifting flashing or damaged render so you can act before it rains.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should Algarve gutters be cleared?
Twice a year for most villas — once in spring after the rain, and once in late autumn before it. Properties under pine or eucalyptus often need more.
Do you work at height safely?
Yes — we use appropriate access equipment and are fully insured. For steep or fragile roofs we soft wash from ladder-safe positions rather than walking the tiles.
Can you come out after a storm as well?
Yes. Post-storm clear-ups — debris removal, blocked drains and damaged furniture disposal — are usually scheduled within a few days.
Is winter a bad time to pressure wash?
Not at all. Dry winter days are excellent for façade and roof work, and it is the quietest part of our calendar, so scheduling is fast.
